About Paw Patch Farm

Our Mission

To enrich the lives of people with disabilities by providing meaningful opportunities to engage with nature and cultivate new skills through therapeutic and educational farming practices. We are committed to fostering inclusivity, personal growth, and community connection, ensuring that every participant has the chance to experience the benefits of outdoor learning and hands-on farming activities.

What is a Social Farm?

What is a "Care Farm" or "Social Farm"

Social farming/Care farming is a unique, therapeutic approach to supporting individuals' mental and physical well-being. By integrating people into farm-based activities, care farms provide a peaceful, natural environment where individuals can engage in meaningful work, develop new skills and experience the healing power of nature. This practice is beneficial for all people, but not all people have accessible space to experience these beneficial practices.  We believe that in order to offer equitable opportunities more farm and garden spaces need to be made accessible to all.

Beyond fostering personal growth, care farming promotes social inclusion, builds community connections, and helps reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, all while supporting sustainable farming practices.

Small Farm, Big Impact

Paw Patch Social Farm is a Government of BC and CRA registered non profit society. We are beginning with a focused approach constructing accessible planters, gardens, and outdoor spaces. Our vision is scalable, with plans to incorporate chickens, ducks, goats, and other small animals into the farm as we grow. In the future, we aim to establish an indoor facility for year-round programming and develop accessible walking paths through the woods. We also seek to collaborate with other nonprofit organizations to enhance food security initiatives for low-income members of our community. We are dedicated to expanding our reach and impact, fostering a sustainable and inclusive environment for all.

She is currently pursuing studies in Emergency Management and has gained valuable hands-on experience as an Emergency Support Services Representative during a recent wildfire season. Through this role, Nyla identified a critical gap in disaster response planning—particularly for individuals with disabilities and low-income families.

Motivated by a strong commitment to equity, she is passionate about promoting inclusive and accessible emergency education and response initiatives that serve all members of the community.
